DoorDash offering $10,000 relief grants to small restaurants in South Carolina
Small restaurants in South Carolina have a glimmer of hope as DoorDash announces a $1 million Restaurant Disaster Relief Fund, offering $10,000 grants to local eateries affected by state or federally-declared natural disasters.
The food delivery service aims to support small businesses in staying afloat and providing jobs to their staff and food to their communities. DoorDash spokesperson Julian Crowley expressed sympathy for those impacted by Hurricane Helene and encouraged eligible restaurants to apply for the relief grant.
To qualify for the grant, restaurants must have a brick-and-mortar location open for at least six months, with no more than three locations or 50 employees at each site. Additionally, each location cannot have earned more than $3 million in revenue in the past year.
Applications are being accepted through May of next year via the online small business platform Hello Alice. The selection process will be based on how well applicants meet the program’s goals, according to a DoorDash spokesperson.
This news comes at a critical time, as the U.S. Small Business Administration recently announced the depletion of its funding for disaster loans. While the SBA offers low-interest long-term loans for those affected by natural disasters, DoorDash’s relief fund provides a much-needed alternative for struggling restaurants.
In the midst of recovery efforts, FEMA has also created a guide for business owners navigating the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. With DoorDash’s generous initiative, South Carolina’s small restaurants have a chance to receive the support they need to rebuild and thrive once again.
