“Coalition Plans to Develop $50 Million Federal Grant for Century City Business Park”
The 30th Street Corridor in Milwaukee is on the verge of a major transformation, thanks to a coalition vying for a $50 million federal grant to bring advanced manufacturing jobs to the area. The Northwest Side Community Development Corporation (NWSCDC) is leading the charge, with plans to develop a new building in the Century City business park.
The proposed building, to be located at 3424 N. 27th St., would house growing businesses in a 50,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing training and innovation center. The goal is to support workforce development and help businesses expand their operations. The coalition behind the project is a finalist for the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Distressed Area Recompete pilot program, with hopes of receiving a substantial grant to fund the initiative.
Partners in the project include the City of Milwaukee, WRTP/BIG STEP, Milwaukee Area Labor Council, Milwaukee Bucks, Froedtert Health, Rockwell Automation, Jonco Industries, MobiliSE, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The goal is to create jobs in an area where prime-age employment significantly trails the national average.
The 30th Street Corridor, once home to major manufacturers like A.O. Smith and Eaton, has seen a decline in employment opportunities in recent years. The proposed building is part of a larger effort to revitalize the area and bring new economic opportunities to the community.
With plans for a second building in the works and support from various stakeholders, the coalition is optimistic about the future of the 30th Street Corridor. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting development project.
