Bechtel Honored with 2024 Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence in Construction

In celebration of National Small Business Week, Bechtel has been recognized with the prestigious 2024 Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence in Construction by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). This award highlights Bechtel’s outstanding support of small businesses and their contributions to the construction industry.

At an event in Washington, D.C., Bechtel team members Stephanie Park, Felicia Bell, and Tarek Amine proudly accepted the award from SBA Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman. The award ceremony took place as part of National Small Business Week, which runs from April 29 to May 6, 2024.

Tarek Amine, Bechtel’s chief supply chain officer, expressed the company’s commitment to fostering partnerships with small businesses, stating, “Building great partnerships with small businesses is a win-win, providing opportunities that invigorate local communities and economies while helping us to deliver critical projects for our customers. We are honored to receive this year’s Dwight D. Eisenhower Award in Construction, and we look forward to continued collaboration with our many partners.”

The SBA commended Bechtel for its excellence, innovation, and dedication to investing in small businesses, which ultimately benefit local communities and the broader economy. One example of Bechtel’s efforts is the Sepulveda Transit Corridor project in Los Angeles, where over 25 small, local, and minority-owned businesses were engaged through the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program.

Chris Diaz, principal at Diaz, Yourman & Associates, praised Bechtel for their support and proactive assistance on the Sepulveda Transit Corridor project, emphasizing the importance of timely payments for small businesses. Similarly, Hank Torbert, president of Alta Max, highlighted Bechtel’s commitment to communication and teamwork on the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant project.

Bechtel’s dedication to working with diverse small businesses and suppliers and contributing to local economies is evident in their ongoing efforts. To learn more about Bechtel’s impact on communities, visit https://impact.bechtel.com/our-communities/.
