Biden praises American forces for helping Israel down drones and missiles fired by Iran
The world was on edge as tensions escalated in the Middle East following a daring attack by Iran on Israel. President Joe Biden praised American forces for their swift response in helping Israel intercept “dozens of missiles” and drones launched from Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.
In a statement, Biden reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering support for Israel’s defense against attacks by Iran and its proxies. The attack marked a significant escalation, as it was the first time Iran had directly targeted Israel, risking a wider regional conflict.
The U.S. military deployed aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region to assist Israel in taking down the incoming threats. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed that U.S. forces successfully intercepted many of the attacks, demonstrating their readiness to protect U.S. troops and partners in the region.
Biden cut short his weekend plans to meet with his national security team and discuss the unfolding situation. He also convened a meeting with the Group of Seven advanced democracies to coordinate a united diplomatic response to Iran’s aggression.
The Pentagon reported that Austin had spoken with his Israeli counterpart to commend the “extraordinary defensive measures” taken to defeat the Iranian attack. The U.S. reiterated its full support for Israel’s defense against any future attacks.
As tensions continued to rise, Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard seized an Israeli-affiliated container ship near the Strait of Hormuz, further escalating the situation. The U.S. strongly condemned the seizure and called for the immediate release of the ship and crew.
The world watched anxiously as the situation in the Middle East unfolded, with the U.S. and its allies sending a clear message to Iran to de-escalate the conflict. The region remained on high alert as the threat of further attacks loomed.
