Support for Small Businesses Impacted by Entertainment Industry Strikes and COVID-19: New Grant Programs Available

The entertainment industry in Los Angeles is a major driver of the local economy, with many small businesses relying on it for their livelihood. However, when two major industry unions went on strike last year, the ripple effects were felt far and wide. Now, a new grant program has been unveiled to support these businesses and others that were negatively impacted by COVID-19.

The Los Angeles County Entertainment Business Interruption Fund, a $4.1 million grant program, aims to provide financial assistance to small businesses that support the entertainment industry in LA County. Businesses with annual gross revenue of $3 million or less, and at least 70 percent of revenue coming from the entertainment industry, are eligible to apply for grants ranging from $10,000 to $25,000. The deadline to apply is May 24.

In addition to this program, other small business grants are also available to support entrepreneurs in various industries. H&R Block’s Fund Her Future Grants program is specifically designed to support women-owned businesses, offering a total of $100,000 in funding and access to small business services. Applications are open until May 26.

Washington, D.C. is also offering grants through the Robust Retail Grants program, providing up to $10,000 to eligible businesses for various needs such as renovations and payroll. The city has awarded over $4 million in grants since 2019, with 64 additional businesses receiving funds this year.

Youngstown, Ohio, has launched the Small Businesses Boost Grant program to support local businesses, offering funds and resources for long-term success. The application period is open until May 31.

Madison, Wisconsin, offers a match program for businesses that receive Kiva loans, providing additional loans of up to $7,500 through designated community partners. This program aims to support small business owners and startups in the city.

Lastly, West Monroe, Louisiana, is offering Next Level Business Grants to help local businesses improve their exteriors. The program provides reimbursement grants with a one-for-one match requirement from the business. Applications are due by May 10.

These grant programs provide much-needed support to small businesses in various industries, helping them recover and thrive in the post-pandemic economy. Small business owners are encouraged to explore these opportunities and apply for funding to support their growth and success.
