Kathryn Williamson to Take Career Break from RFU Executive Team

Kathryn Williamson, a key figure in the Rugby Football Union (RFU) since 2020, has announced her decision to take a career break, leaving a significant gap in the governing body’s executive team. Williamson, who joined the RFU as communications director and was later promoted, will be departing in the spring of next year, allowing for a proper handover.

During her time at the RFU, Williamson has played a crucial role in shaping the communications strategy for England Rugby, navigating through a variety of challenges including player welfare issues, the impacts of COVID-19 on the game, and the transition of coaching teams. She has also led PR campaigns to support the community game, showcasing her dedication to promoting rugby at all levels.

Ranked sixth in PRWeek’s Power Book Top 10 Communicators in Sports (Governing Bodies), Williamson has been recognized for her exceptional work in the field of communications. Her departure will undoubtedly be felt within the RFU, as they now seek a new communications chief who can continue to uphold the organization’s reputation and drive growth both domestically and internationally.

With recruitment for her replacement already underway, the RFU is looking for a candidate who can build on Williamson’s legacy and lead the communications team to new heights. As Williamson prepares to step away from her role, her contributions to English rugby and the RFU will be remembered and celebrated.
