Ex-Trump Security Adviser H.R. McMaster Warns West on the Cusp of Another World War
In a recent interview, Gen. H.R. McMaster, former national security adviser to President Donald Trump, issued a stark warning to the US, UK, and other nations, stating that they are “on the cusp of another World War.” McMaster urged for an increase in defense spending to 4% of GDP, double the current NATO requirement, and emphasized the need to invest in missile defense systems like Israel’s Iron Dome to address potential “cascading crises.”
McMaster’s concerns were shared during an interview with Britain’s LBC Radio, where he emphasized the importance of taking the threat seriously to prevent a global conflict. He highlighted that the suggested increase in defense spending would still be historically low compared to Cold War levels, emphasizing the importance of prevention over intervention.
When asked about how President Trump would handle the situation if re-elected, McMaster expressed confidence in Trump’s approach to burden-sharing and reciprocity among NATO nations. He also acknowledged Trump’s stance on Germany’s reliance on Russian gas exports through the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, calling it an “unwise decision” that grants Putin coercive power over the European economy.
However, McMaster also criticized Trump for his belief in striking a deal with Putin, stating that the Russian president’s ultimate goal is to restore the Russian Empire and not engage in diplomatic agreements. McMaster also highlighted the need for countries to develop advanced defense systems, including long-range and hypersonic missiles, to counter emerging threats.
The warning comes amidst ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, and renewed military activity near Taiwan, raising concerns about the potential for a larger global conflict. With Russia developing nuclear anti-satellite capabilities and China displaying aggressive military posturing, the international community faces a challenging geopolitical landscape.
As tensions continue to rise, McMaster’s cautionary words serve as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and cooperation among nations to prevent the outbreak of another devastating world war.
