GM and Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce Announce Second Round of Small Business Grant Program

General Motors (GM) and the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce are teaming up once again to support small businesses in Flint, Michigan. With an additional $210,000 in funding from GM, the Moving Flint Forward Small Business Grant Program is back for a second round, offering grants of up to $10,000 to eligible small businesses in the area.

The grants will be awarded on a competitive basis and can be used for various business operations, such as expansion projects, repairs, inventory and equipment purchases, or façade improvements. Even online-only businesses are encouraged to apply. In an effort to address racial disparities in the community, GM has set aside 10 grants specifically for minority-owned businesses.

Terry Rhadigan, GM’s executive director of corporate giving, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting local businesses in Flint, stating, “GM has been part of the Flint community for more than 100 years. We’re eager to continue our partnership with the Flint & Genesee Chamber to expand revitalization efforts across the city’s neighborhoods by supporting local businesses.”

Chamber CEO Tim Herman also praised GM for its contributions to the community, saying, “General Motors is an outstanding corporate citizen of our community. On behalf of our small business community and the people they employ, I again say thank you to GM for its investments in Flint and Genesee County.”

Small business owners in Flint with 25 or fewer employees are eligible to apply for the grant program, regardless of whether they operate online or have a physical storefront. Applications will be reviewed by a committee made up of representatives from GM, the Flint & Genesee Chamber, the City of Flint, local grant-making organizations, and community members.

The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on December 30th. Applications can be submitted online, mailed, or hand-delivered to the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce.
