Starting his career as a lawyer, Cash served as an assistant district attorney in New York before transitioning to the CIA as an assistant general counsel. Following the events of 9/11, Cash played a pivotal role in shaping national security efforts, contributing to the development of key legislation such as the USA PATRIOT Act and the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act.
Throughout the 2000s, Cash held various significant roles in homeland security and intelligence, including chief counsel to the U.S. Senate’s Judiciary Committee, chief of staff at the Department of Energy, and staff director to the House of Representatives’ Select Committee on Homeland Security. He also served as a professional staff member and counsel to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
In the 2010s, Cash shifted his focus to private legal practice before returning to the federal government in 2022 as an intelligence officer for DHS. Currently serving as the acting executive director of the Intelligence Enterprise Program Office within DHS’ Office of Intelligence and Analysis, Cash is dedicated to delivering intelligence to state, local, tribal, and territorial partners.
