Mississippi State’s Veterans Business Outreach Center Named Center of the Year by U.S. Small Business Administration
Mississippi State University’s Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) has been recognized as the Veterans Business Outreach Center of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. This prestigious award was presented as part of the 2024 National Small Business Week, which celebrates the economic contributions of small business owners, advocates, and lending partners.
The VBOC at Mississippi State University is one of only 28 centers of its kind in the country. Established in 2015, the center serves the U.S. military community in Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana, providing programs and services to help active duty-transitioning service members, veterans, reservists, National Guard members, and military spouses start, grow, and expand their small businesses.
Under the leadership of director Mark L. Scott, the VBOC offers a range of services including business training, mentoring, and referrals. The center also conducts specialized courses such as the Boots to Business Introduction to Entrepreneurship for transitioning military members and the Boots to Business Reboots Introduction to Entrepreneurship for veterans who have already separated from the military.
“We are thrilled with this recognition for the Veterans Business Outreach Center. The team does excellent work with their clients, and we’re proud to see them honored for what they do,” said Scott Grawe, dean of the MSU College of Business. “Entrepreneurs and small business owners are an important part of the MSU business community, and we have resources in place to help them succeed.”
