Empowering Communities: Fiji’s Commitment to Women’s Economic Empowerment and Disability Support
Fiji’s Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection Launches Initiatives to Combat Poverty and Empower Communities
Suva, Fiji – In a bold move to uplift communities and combat poverty, the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection is intensifying its efforts to empower women and individuals with disabilities across Fiji. Minister Sashi Kiran announced a series of initiatives aimed at fostering economic independence and enhancing community engagement.
The cornerstone of this initiative is the women’s economic empowerment grants, designed to support women’s groups and entrepreneurs in launching or expanding small businesses. “These grants are not just financial assistance; they are a pathway to sustainable income and financial independence for women,” Kiran stated during a recent press conference.
In addition to supporting women, the Ministry is also rolling out Disability Grants aimed at improving accessibility for persons with disabilities and their families. These grants will enable individuals to start small businesses and participate more fully in community life, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Kiran emphasized the importance of continued investment in Income Generating Projects, which are crucial for strengthening local capacities and bolstering village economies. “By helping families meet their daily needs, we are laying the groundwork for a more resilient and self-sufficient Fiji,” she added.
These initiatives reflect the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to creating an inclusive Fiji where every individual has the opportunity to thrive. As the government takes these significant steps, the hope is to inspire a ripple effect of empowerment and economic growth throughout the nation.
