Delaware Division of Small Business Offers Grant Program to Boost Employee Training

Maintaining a well-trained workforce is crucial for small businesses to succeed in today’s competitive economy. However, the cost of training can often be a barrier for smaller employers. To address this issue, the Delaware Division of Small Business (DSB) has introduced a grant program that can provide much-needed support to businesses of all sizes looking to invest in employee training programs.

The Workforce Training Grant is a matching grant program available to eligible Delaware companies and non-profits with w-2 employees. It is specifically designed for employers who need to enhance the skill level of their existing workforce through customized training programs. The goal of the program is to create and retain quality jobs in Delaware and provide advancement opportunities for employees.

To be eligible for funding, training programs must be related to new and innovative processes, machinery, or technology upgrades, rather than routine business expenses. For example, if a business has upgraded its equipment to newer models and requires training for staff on how to operate them due to new technology, this could qualify for a Workforce Training Grant.

Grants are capped at $100,000 per grant and can cover up to 50% of eligible costs, including instruction, classroom space, and other related training expenses. Priority will be given to projects that create new jobs within the state and benefit Delaware’s economy.

Employees trained under the grant must be full-time permanent Delaware residents, with at least 50% of them being Delaware residents. The funds are disbursed in two installments, with half released after the grant agreement is executed and the remaining amount after the successful completion of training.

The Workforce Training Grant is a valuable resource for businesses looking to enhance their employees’ skills in a cost-effective manner. To learn more about eligibility and how to apply, businesses can contact the DSB Regional Business Manager for their county or visit the DSB website for a list of available grant programs.

As National Small Business Month approaches, the Division of Small Business is committed to supporting businesses in Delaware by providing guidance, connecting them to resources, and offering access to funding opportunities. Take advantage of the services offered by DSB to help your business thrive in today’s competitive market.
