Government Watchdog Calls for Investigation into Alleged Hatch Act Violations by White House and Small Business Administration
The government watchdog group Protect the Public’s Trust (PPT) has called for an investigation into alleged violations of the Hatch Act by the White House and the Small Business Administration. This request comes after White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was found to have violated the Hatch Act twice in the lead-up to the 2022 midterm elections.
Despite receiving a warning in 2023 to refrain from using campaign slogans in official government communications, the White House and SBA have continued to allegedly violate the Hatch Act. The PPT reviewed emails obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request and found evidence of ongoing violations.
PPT Director Michael Chamberlain expressed concern over the apparent disregard for the Hatch Act, stating that such behavior erodes public trust in government officials. The organization highlighted examples of alleged violations, including a White House email discussing the President’s veto of a “MAGA Republican bill” and a SBA email forwarding talking points on the same topic.
The PPT is urging the Office of Special Council to conduct a thorough investigation into these alleged violations and take appropriate action to address the public’s concerns. The White House and SBA have yet to respond to the request for an investigation. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
